We collect only what we need to make Hank useful. We don't sell your data. We don't share your fishing locations. If you've read nothing else, read that.
This policy covers two products: Nako.ai (this website, where you chat with Hank) and Hank's Log (our iOS app, a private catch journal). The iOS app is local-first — your catches stay on your device by default.
Conversation data. Messages you send to Hank are processed to generate responses. Conversations may be stored to provide chat history across sessions. We do not use your conversations to train AI models or sell to third parties.
User profile. If you provide information about your experience level, preferred lakes, or fishing style, we store this locally on your device and optionally in our database (linked to your phone number if you choose to save it) to personalize Hank's responses.
Phone number (optional). If you choose to save your preferences across devices, we ask for a phone number as a simple identifier. This is entirely optional. We do not send marketing texts.
Location data. If you use the GPS location feature, your coordinates are used only to identify the nearest lake. Coordinates are not stored, logged, or transmitted beyond that single lookup.
Usage data. Standard web analytics (page views, general location by region, device type). We use this to understand which content is useful. No individual tracking.
Secret spots are sacred — on both the website and in the iOS app. Any lake name or location you share with Hank (web) is used only to answer your question: it is not stored as a location record, not associated with a map, and not shared with any other user or third party. Catches you log in Hank's Log (iOS) live on your device. We have no interest in crowdsourcing fishing locations, and our business model never depends on it.
Local-first by design. Hank's Log is a private fishing journal. All of your catches, photos, notes, and trip history are stored on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not run a user account system; we do not upload your catches to our servers.
Photo library access. When you import photos into the app, we read each photo's EXIF metadata (capture timestamp and GPS coordinates) locally on your device so we can cluster photos into trips and enrich them with conditions. We do not upload your photos anywhere. Photos you attach to a catch are copied into the app's sandbox on your device.
Location data. GPS coordinates from your photos are stored on your device at full precision, so your trip map is accurate. When the app queries external weather or water-gauge services, coordinates are rounded (roughly 500 meters) before being sent, so the service cannot pinpoint the exact fishing spot. Your precise coordinates never leave the device.
iCloud backup (optional). If you enable iCloud sync, the app uses Apple's CloudKit to back your catches up to your personal iCloud account. Only you (with your Apple ID) can access that data. We never see it.
What the app sends to third parties. To enrich your catches with real-world conditions, the app contacts public data services with a rounded coordinate and the trip's date range — no user identifier is attached:
Subscriptions. Hank's Log is free to try for 14 days. Paid tiers are handled entirely by Apple via the App Store (StoreKit). We receive only the anonymized transaction confirmation Apple sends — not your name, email, or payment details.
No tracking, no analytics SDKs. Hank's Log does not include Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, Firebase Analytics, or any other third-party tracking or attribution framework. We do not track you across apps or websites.
Diagnostics. If iOS automatically offers to share crash reports with developers (you control this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple delivers them to us in aggregated, anonymized form. We use them only to fix bugs.
When Hank recommends a product and you purchase it through a link, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products Hank recommends — recommendations are based on what fits the conditions.
Nako.ai (website) relies on:
Hank's Log (iOS app) relies on:
Website. Conversation history is retained to provide session continuity. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. If you never provide a phone number, your data is stored only on your device and cleared when you clear your browser storage.
iOS app. Your catches live on your device until you delete them. Uninstalling Hank's Log removes the local database. If iCloud sync was enabled, your data also lives in your personal iCloud account until you delete it there.
Nako.ai is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Nako.ai after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
