Lake Phelps is one of North Carolina's largest natural lakes, characterized by remarkably clear water despite its dark, tea-stained appearance. The fishery is largely shallow, with depths rarely exceeding 10 feet, offering extensive cypress tree cover, submerged grass, and sandy flats that hold good numbers of largemouth bass.
