Texas Rig Fishing on Lake Nimrod
Lake Nimrod · Arkansas · South Central
Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains of south-central Arkansas, Lake Nimrod spans 3,550 acres, characterized by vast expanses of standing timber, cypress trees, and submerged stumps. It's a shallow, river-run lake influenced by the Fourche La Fave River, creating a fishery that favors stealthy, cover-focused presentations and holds a strong population of largemouth bass.
A bullet sinker slides freely on the line ahead of a wide-gap hook with a weedless-rigged soft plastic. The rig is completely snag-resistant, making it the go-to choice for grass, timber, and heavy cover. Works with virtually any soft plastic — worms, craws, creatures, lizards.

Seasonal Tactics on Lake Nimrod
Lake: Bass migrate to shallow timber and cypress knees, often in 2-6 feet of water, making spinnerbaits, squarebill crankbaits, and flipping jigs highly effective near visible cover.
Texas Rig: Slow drag through spawning flats and around beds. Lizards and creature baits in crawfish colors.
Lake: As water temperatures rise, bass pull into deeper timber in 8-15 feet, often suspending or holding tight to cover, where a Texas-rigged worm or jig worked slowly can coax bites.
Texas Rig: Pitch into shade — docks, mats, and laydowns. Pegged weight for matted grass punching.
Lake: The cooling water sees bass scatter and chase shad, frequently found around creek channel bends and main lake points with timber, responding well to topwater baits, lipless crankbaits, and spinnerbaits.
Texas Rig: Cover water quickly on points and along weed lines. Faster retrieve with a reaction element.
Lake: Bass become lethargic and congregate in the deepest available timber, typically in 15-25 feet, often near the old river channel, where slow-rolled jigs and vertical presentations with spoons or jigging worms are productive.
Texas Rig: Slow drag on deep structure, 15–30 feet. Finesse Texas rig with 1/4 oz and 6" worm.
Best Conditions
Heavy cover — grass, timber, laydowns, docks; murky to stained water; any season; pre-spawn and post-spawn periods
Peg the weight with a rubber toothpick when fishing grass. A sliding weight catches weeds; a pegged weight punches through clean.
